EU-wide Flexibility Assessment Platform
December 1, 2024Supporting an adaptable assessment of generation variability, consumption patterns, and grid availability in Europe

Partner: SoftwareOne
Stakeholder: Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER)
Europe’s evolving energy landscape calls for smarter, more adaptive tools to support a reliable and sustainable energy future. To support ACER’s work, Open Energy Transition is developing the EU-Flex Platform — an EU-wide flexibility assessment tool built on the open-source PyPSA framework.
The EU-Flex Platform will offer a fully functional solution for assessing system flexibility across deeper insights into supply-demand dynamics and grid reliability. Through advanced open-source modelling approaches, the platform will enhance energy planning capabilities and foster long-term sustainability via capacity-building and knowledge transfer. This initiative represents a meaningful step toward greater resilience and cooperation in the European energy system.
